Q & A

1. What is EACH?
EACH stands for “Everyone a Chance to Hear.” Hundreds of Detroit area churches are committed to showing the love of Jesus through thousands of different acts of personal and community service. Tens of thousands of followers of Jesus will pray for and help people from all walks of life in the Detroit region. We’re committed to showing others the love and grace shown to us by Jesus Christ. More than 400 churches and Christian organizations are involved. This is the first time in memory so many churches of different Christian backgrounds have united over this simple, but important Christian imperative.

2. Is this a religious movement?
EACH is not about religion or religious institutions. It’s about showing the love of Jesus through our actions, our words, and our own personal experiences as believers in Him. Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” That is a directive for those who are His followers. EACH is a Christ-centered community movement.

3. How Long Does EACH last?
We hope the spirit of EACH goes on indefinitely – but we’re focusing on a 40-day period starting on Easter 2011 for churches and ministries to act as part of a concerted and organized effort.

4. What type of service will be offered as part of this program?
Most EACH community activities and initiatives are determined individually by different congregations and organizations across metro Detroit. This is a wide-ranging commitment to impact our communities in real, meaningful ways. For example, one organization is committed to giving 10,000 hot meals a day to the needy during the 40 days; another is sending two medical and dental buses to neighborhoods to offer free medical care. Each congregation and Christian organization will determine its own activities.

5. What events will be part of this effort that are open to the public?
Each participating Christian organization will be responsible for communicating any public activities it undertakes. However, on April 16th all participants will be conducting a Prayer Walk, where thousands will gather to pray for our community, our neighbors, and each other. There will also be a Celebration Event planned for June, with the date and details to be determined.

6. What is your mission?
“Working together as a body of believers, we will give everyone in the Metropolitan area a chance to take the next step in their journey toward Jesus.”

7. Who is supporting this program?
The program is supported by more than 400 area churches, Christian ministries and Christian outreach communities in southeastern Michigan. Many are partnering with government, community, and other service organizations to directly impact the lives of others in a positive way, from a neighbor to a local school. There is no one denomination involved. We’re all united in our commitment to love our neighbors as followers of Jesus.

8. How much money do you plan to raise?
This is not at its heart a fundraising venture. However, followers of Jesus are encouraged to donate resources as their abilities dictate through the www.eachtoday.com web site. In addition, each participating organization is free to gather its own resources as needed to enact the initiatives they undertake.

9. How are area churches involved?
Participating Christian organizations must agree to a simple statement of faith. Each participating organization locally decides specific actions they may initiate to support their communities and neighborhoods.

10. What does the statement of faith say?
The statement of faith can be found through the following link: http://eachtoday.com/home/join/each-statement-of-faith/

11. Are all denominations of churches involved?
Any Christian organization that agrees to the statement of faith can register and be a part of the EACH initiative. Visit www.eachtoday.com to find out how your organization or congregation can get involved.

12. What impact do you hope to have?
There is no specific “impact agenda,” though we believe heartfelt acts of love and care will have lasting impact in the lives of many. We definitely hope more will become curious about who Jesus is and the love He demonstrates every day.

13. Are there any other EACH initiatives?
Yes. The initiative is called 2WordStory and will launch in April. Followers of Jesus will go out into community and share their stories of their lives before knowing Jesus and their lives after experiencing His life-changing love. There will be a website where people will share their stories and various media initiatives inviting people to connect and engage online.

14. Who is in charge of EACH?
There is a steering committee comprised of leaders of urban and suburban Christian organizations that is guiding the EACH initiative. However, each signatory has independent latitude to carry out the EACH mission in its own way.

15. Does EACH have a spokesperson?
Each participating Christian organization can speak for itself. However, four individuals are handling any overriding questions about the initiative:

  • Bob Shirock – Pastor, Oak Pointe Church
  • Edgar Vann, Pastor, Second Ebenezer Church
  • Christopher Brooks, Pastor, Evangel Ministries
  • Ron Risher, Executive Director, EACH
